Sonya Unwin is a Visual Artist with a B.A Visual Arts (Honours) from UniSA and is proudly based in Adelaide with a studio at The Collective Haunt in Norwood. She is Curator of the Metro Art Space at the Hotel Metropolitan, Adelaide, was one of the inaugural SALA Artists-in-Residence at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute and was the recipient of Helpmann Academy’s 2017/18 Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation, Arts in Health Mentorship.
Her practice revolves around painting, with her main mediums being oils on canvas, or watercolour and ink washes on paper. She researches the liminal space of the horizon and relies heavily on the emotional value of colour within the landscape. As a natural expressionist, her paintings often have an abstract quality and she is drawn to painting watery horizons.
